Integrating Strategic Communications

The Coca-Cola Company

The Coca-Cola Company sought to reinvent its reporting approach to combine two high-level reports – their Sustainability Review and Annual Review — into a single engaging, strategic, substantive report that would serve a broad range of stakeholders, including investors.

Strategy, Reporting, Design, Frameworks: Global Reporting Initiative, Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, UN Sustainable Development Goals, UN Global Compact, UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework

Working with creative partner Ideas on Purpose (IOP), BuzzWord developed a plan for a report that provided key information on complex issues in an accessible, attractive format, enabling a candid look at The Coca-Cola Company’s progress on its sustainability goals, including how it is working to implement a more circular model for plastic packaging waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain, and reduce sugar across its beverage portfolio.

To provide a resource for the number crunchers among us, the Business and Sustainability Review also included, for the first time, a comprehensive data appendix.

BuzzWord and IOP have collaborated on two additional reports, which built on the integrated approach and expanded discussion of the company’s goals, including a new Science-Based Target for greenhouse gas emissions. The reports also provide additional discussion of the company’s climate change risks and opportunities and include indexes to the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board.

In 2021, BuzzWord also worked with Coca-Cola to develop its World Without Waste Report, which provides a deep dive on the company's packaging goals, key issues, progress and partnerships.
