Journey to Top-Ranked Disclosure

Southwestern Energy

Seven years ago, BuzzWord worked with Southwestern Energy (SWN), a U.S. natural gas company specializing in hydraulic fracturing, to develop their first corporate responsibility report – and we have supported their reporting ever since. BuzzWord has helped SWN develop and maintain leadership reporting in an industry that faces significant public scrutiny and increasing pressure for disclosure amid a changing landscape of reporting frameworks and scorecards.

Strategy, Reporting, Materiality, Frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, IPIECA oil and gas industry guidance and Disclosing the Facts)

BuzzWord provides SWN with end-to-end assistance, from reporting strategy, benchmarking and materiality analysis to content development for a full report, appendix and executive summary. Over the years, we have helped SWN evolve from a GRI Core-level report to one that is also aligned with key global and industry-specific reporting frameworks, including those of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and IPIECA (an industry organization). We’ve also helped SWN improve on Disclosing the Facts, a key industry-specific investor scorecard that ranks oil and gas companies’ reporting and transparency efforts, moving them from 27th place before their first report to first place in 2018 and 2019. BuzzWord was invaluable in helping us develop our first corporate responsibility report, and they continue to be an important part of our reporting journey. BuzzWord provided assistance with reporting strategy, materiality analysis, writing and editing of our first report, which, as a result, had a strong material issue focus. We continue to rely on the skills and deep experience of the BuzzWord team as we advance the scope and transparency of our corporate responsibility reporting.
